Meet Patrice

Good Day, my name is Patrice Jane Williams. I'm from a small country town in Middle Georgia called Oglethorpe (nope, not the college). I have a huge love of video games, anime, and k-pop. Therefore, I am the Popnerd Librarian.

I graduated from Valdosta State University located in Valdosta, GA. In Spring 2015 I earned my Bachelor's Degree in English with a concentration in Literature and Language and earned my Masters's of Library and Information Science in Spring 2019. I always had an interest in teaching, languages, and books. It is no surprise I ended up a librarian but how I got here was not straightforward.

The interest in teaching came from my love of languages. I have studied French for two years in high school and continued for a year in College. In high school, French was a language not widely spoken and it inspired me to learn languages not widely spoken, especially in the Middle Georgia area I grew up in. My love for Japanese anime has flourished since childhood because of older shows like Gundam Wing that came on with the rest of the cartoons on Cartoon Network. Anime inspired me to pursue Japanese in college. I studied Japanese for three years at Valdosta State. During my years studying, I had many international friends that I tutored in English and they tutored me in their native languages.

When it came time for me to graduate, I panicked like most in their twenties. I had an idea of being in education but I wasn't sure as to what. So introduced to the idea by a fellow English major, I looked into the Librarian Information Science Field. I found that my literature and research skills could be put to use in the Reference section of the LIS field. I also remembered the nice English Librarian that helped me with my Senior Seminar research. Those two instances set me down the librarian path.

Currently, I am the Humanities Librarian for the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library. Combining information literacy, academic research, and popular culture is a favorite past-time of mine. It is nice to meet you!
